The International Festival of Ancient Music Timeless Notes continues its journey with an appointment of particular interest dedicated to the art of vocal polyphony. Saturday 4 July 2026, at 22.00, in the evocative setting of Piazza della Misericordia in Castelsardo, will be the protagonist Vocal Group Amoris Laetitia, directed by Laura Gallo, with the concert The spirit of the times.

The program offers a fascinating musical itinerary through over four centuries of history, putting some of the greatest masterpieces of the European polyphonic tradition into dialogue with lesser-known but of extraordinary historical and musical interest pages. From Ludovico da Viadana to Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, from Tomás Luis de Victoria to Josquin Desprez, up to the twentieth century works of Zoltán Kodály and Maurice Duruflé, the concert offers the public the opportunity to cross different eras united by the same search for expressive depth and perfection of vocal language.

Particularly significant is the emphasis given to the figure of Giandomenico Martoretta, Calabrian composer active in the second half of the sixteenth century at the court of Francesco I Moncada, count of Caltanissetta. His compositions, rarely performed, they will be compared to the great names of Renaissance polyphony, highlighting the richness and originality of a musical heritage that deserves to be rediscovered and valorised.

The title of the concert, The spirit of the times, it recalls precisely this idea of crossing time: the human voice becomes the common thread that connects different centuries, showing how music can preserve its ability to excite and speak to contemporary man intact. The sacred and profane pages on the program, from the famous motets of Palestrina and Victoria to the madrigals of Martoretta, they build a sound path in which spirituality, poetry and compositional refinement are intertwined in a single listening experience.

He will lead the concert Laura Gallo, musician and scholar particularly committed to research and valorization of the Sicilian Renaissance repertoire. After his violin studies and collaborations with important Italian musical institutions, founded in 2017 the Vocal Group The joy of love, specialized training in the performance of ancient music a cappella. His research activity, transcription and dissemination of the Renaissance repertoire has contributed in recent years to the rediscovery of numerous works linked to the musical tradition of southern Italy.

Con The spirit of the times, the Note Senza Tempo Festival offers the public a rare opportunity to listen to some of the highest expressions of polyphonic art in a highly evocative context. A concert that invites attentive listening, to discovery and reflection, through a repertoire that continues to speak with extraordinary force to our present.
